There is a big difference between earning money and earning a living. Every day there are thousands of people around the world who are attracted to an advertisement that claims anyone can make money on the Internet with Affiliate Marketing. However, getting start is most often very confusing. Some of the most frequently asked questions include:

• "Where should I start if I do not have my own product or service?"
• "How and where do I advertise?"
• "How much will it cost me to get started?"
• "How long will it be before I can work full time from home?"

Those are all excellent questions and everyone who is earning money on the Internet asked the same questions at some point. Most who did not have a product of their own started by promoting the products and services of others. There is no time or cost involved in producing the products, getting them patented or registered with the Library of Congress. There also is no requirement to have a payment processor to collect the money and deliver the goods.

As an affiliate, your primary focus is in customer acquisition. That involves learning what to offer, how to advertise, where to promote the products, developing a subscriber list to provide how-to articles related to the products you are offering, and building trust in yourself for repeat orders.

That is actually an extemely short list of the basic building blocks and for some it might even look easy, but when you get into the details of each area, you can be astonished. One thing to remember is that not all affiliate programs are profitable. You first must learn how to choose an affiliate program that suits you. Once you learn that, you will start learning how to promote it effectively.
